In the 1980s, Stéphane Bastien, formally trained in graphic design and advertising, founded his agency confident he could offer companies more: a well-targeted definition of their products, a fresh perspective on their image and, ultimately, greater visibility in their market. Our brief overview will show you how far one of Quebec's fastest-growing communication agencies has come over the past few years.
In partnership with an associate, Stéphane Bastien founds Concept Publicité, setting up shop on Chemin de la Grande-Côte in Saint-Eustache. The agency moves from the drawing board to the computer and starts the early 1990s by hiring two others. Stéphane Bastien dons the mantle of entrepreneur and, at the same time, teaches graphic design for three years.
Despite a difficult recession, Concept Publicité moves to a new office and Stéphane Bastien stops teaching to concentrate on his business. In 1999, the agency incorporates and changes its name to Voyou Communications. With a team of five, the company relocates once again, remaining in Saint-Eustache.
Accelerated revenue growth, many more hires, a web department on the rise, enhanced services and the addition of major accounts, including Trevi and Aquadis.
In 2008, Voyou expands with the acquisition of communication firm Oxygen. We are now 10 Voyouians (proud rogues). After eight years on 25th Avenue in Saint-Eustache, the agency moves into larger premises in Blainville.
In 2011, Voyou makes a second acquisition: graphic design studio Maelström Communication. The agency's services expand with the addition of experiential and event marketing. Voyou employs about 12 people and heads into a strategic planning exercise in collaboration with the Business Development Bank of Canada.
The agency spreads out, taking up two floors. This is an indispensable extension to welcome new employees who have joined the team in recent months.
The agency now has more than 25 devoted Voyouians (all still rogues). With a new office in Montreal, the agency is now poised to penetrate a new market with enthusiasm, energy and confidence.
